Nikon D3h SLR Update
While Nikon hasn't announced the D3h, that has never stopped netters from speculating about the possibilities. With the specs on the Nikon D3 just released, one has to wonder if the 'h' line has gone the way of the 'F' line.
Based on the last two professional grade Nikon series (the D1 and the D2 series), the 'h' (D1h and D2H) have been built with the sports/journalist photographer in mind. Higher frames per second, but with a lower megapixel count.
With the introduction of the D3, and it's FULL FRAME - high FPS and relatively low megapixel count, one has to wonder if an 'h' will be introduced, or if nikon will jump directly to the D3x. To be honest, the 10 frames per second @ 12.1MP seems like an awful lot of photos and an awful lot of detail.
Much more and you pretty much have a video camera. How far are we really from a 24FPS 16MP Nikon? Will the Nikon D5h be the indy-filmmakers new choice for ultra-extreme-super-high-def-movies? ;) Or will the FPS war taper off as people start caring more about, for instance, noise levels?
Unless Nikon created the D3h to be waterproof and some how upped the FPS to saw 15, I don't much see the need for it like I do see the need for the D3x...Unless...Nikon has a really big surprise up their sleeve, and will produce, say, a 16MP D3h and a whopping > 22MP D3x!
Will Nikon make this camera now, or is the D3 the D2h replacement?

While I initially thought the D3h was dead when then D3 was announced, you make a good point about it maybe being a starting point for the D3 series. Nikon could very well have introduced this to put their Full Frame sensor technology out there in the midst of Canon's newest 1Ds Mark III announcement, with the knowledge they have, not 1, but 2! more cameras on the horizon in this series. Well, 3 if you cound the D300 which hasn't been talked about here yet?!?
